The Most Relative Medium in Art
5 minutes, samples and video
This video displays 200 AI-generated images. Beginning with an image generated by the initial prompt "a red painting in the style of Joseph Albers", the subsequent 199 images each take only the previous image as their starting point. The process is inspired by Albers' colour theory, his principle of studying through experience, and the all-important effects of context. Over the 200 iterative generations of these images, abstract and figurative forms appear and disappear as the AI engine experiences each seed image for the first time. The music likewise drones, evolves, and drifts by in waves, before slowly discovering and unfolding into new themes.
The music was written for and performed by the Bauhaus Band, directed by John Harle.
